Dear Fabian, dear Will, dear everyone,

As you have doubtless noticed, I don't have much time to deal with
Polipo -- CPC and Babel take all my available hacking time. I've been
looking for a new maintainer for four years now, with no success.

If anyone is thinking about taking over Polipo, please create a new
repository, and start working on getting a stable 1.1.0; if after a few
months it's looking good, I'll be glad, nay, delighted to give up
maintainership.

The head branch is believed to be superior in all ways to 1.0.4, except
for one show-stopper bug: the local configuration interface is broken.
Fixing that should not be too difficult.

When hacking at Polipo, please recall that:

 - Polipo is under a non-copyleft licence;
 - Polipo is portable to Linux, BSD Unix (including Mac OS X) and
   System V (Solaris) out of the box; there's partial Windows support
   (both Cygwin, Mingw32 and VC++), but it's not considered a sin to
   break Windows;
 - except for MD5, I've refrained from including any code that I don't
   fully understand; in particular, that means I'm not using the GNU
   autotools;
 - Polipo is lightweight -- it runs fine on OpenWRT machines with 16MB
   of core and no swap.
