Gaar, we grow COTTON in California.  We also grow wheat.  Right now we
send  A LOT of expensive produce to the rest of the U.S., and some of
it requires a lot of water, so we could easily shift to other
products.

The midwest, on the other hand, has a lot of farners who farm
subsidies, not crops.  It might be hard or them to let go of the
government teat, but they might be able to do it.  Of course, it means
they would have to WORK and actually FARM, but Welfare Kings, properly
motivated, could probably get off of farm welfare.
