Gaar, we grow COTTON in California. We also grow wheat. Right now we send A LOT of expensive produce to the rest of the U.S., and some of it requires a lot of water, so we could easily shift to other products.
The midwest, on the other hand, has a lot of farners who farm subsidies, not crops. It might be hard or them to let go of the government teat, but they might be able to do it.
