horrible things...including acid attacks on women...that we merely report
them. Even so, for that, those of us who point out their evil are told
sometimes that we are "Islamaphobic." The people who have this attitude are
mentally unstable. Constantine comments on the recent visit by acid attack
survivor Julie Aftab to Jonesboro. She spoke eloquently about her
experiences to two different audiences last Monday - including the local
ACT! for America chapter - Burkarugly*
Last week we were privileged to have in town an acid attack victim who has
dedicated her life to being a human rights activist. When she was a
teenager in Pakistan she attracted the attention of a Muslim savage simply
because she was wearing a cross pendent. (Christians represent only 1.5 %
of the population of Pakistan and the rest are Muslims.) The Muslim threw
battery acid in her face. Another Muslim poured the acid down her throat.
She related how she watched her cheek fall to the ground. The powerful acid
melted her face and even her teeth. It burned so deeply her bones were
exposed. Three Pakistani hospitals denied her admittance because of the
radicals' threats to burn the hospitals (and their patients) to the ground.
One year after the attack she was shot twice by a Muslim terrorist. Later
she was poisoned by her own doctor who was a Muslim.
In the intervening 10 years she was able to come to a Shriners Burn
Hospital in the USA and have 31 reconstructive surgeries with several more
yet in her future. She has been permanently barred from going back to
Pakistan because supposedly she insulted
Islam. But thankfully she is now a naturalized United States citizen.
I was able to ask her how prevalent these acid attacks are in the Muslim
world. She said somewhere between 1,000 to 1,500 attacks per year in her
native Pakistan alone. In Afghanistan possibly as many as 3,000 per year.
In the northern states of India where
most Muslims live about a 1,000 attacks per year. Bangladesh has several
hundred attacks per year. A disturbing trend is the spread of Islamic acid
attacks into the Muslim portions of Africa. Muslims worldwide are
responsible for 95% of the attacks.
Between 1994 and 2008 in just two Pakistani cities women experienced over
7,000 deliberate acid attacks. Less 2% of the perpetrators were
successfully prosecuted. (Remember in Islam it is always the woman's fault
whether she is raped, disfigured with acid or even the victim of an honor
killing.)
Acid attacks are designed to totally ruin a woman's life. The disfigurement
alone causes her to be a pariah in Islamic society. Not only is her face
ruined but her spirit is destroyed. Untold numbers of these women end up
committing suicide. A few end up becoming homicide bombers in a misguided
attempt to placate their fiendish god and prophet. The vast majority of the
acid attack victims are Muslim women with a significant minority of
Christians.
In the case of our Christian acid attack victim she not only has survived,
she has flourished. At 27 years of age, she runs two safe houses for 80
women (Christian and Muslim) in Pakistan. Plus six sewing centers to teach
women a trade for gainful employment, and she sponsors a school for over
800 Christian children who are forbidden to attend public school in Muslim
dominated Pakistan.
By the grace of God, she is no longer a victim, but rather a victor !
