I have a stomach ache reading Bittman's latest recipe- NYTimes.If you
ever overdosed on chestnuts as a child you will understand. I was
staying with the R. family during the weekend away from boarding
school- grade school. Her father was a golf something or
other.Anyway,two little girls with a bag of chesnuts walked to the
shores of Lake Michigan and began our first debuts/bouts as chefs
roasting chesnuts on the rocks. We ate the entire bag, I think we
moaned and groaned the rest of the weekend. Even the word, "chestnut"
roils the stomach to this very day. But we did learn how to light
matches.
