[[ Better idea: Ban Democrats. ]]

*Democrats Want to Ban Guns that Aren’t “Smart”*

*Only allowing people to buy expensive high-tech guns is the same as
passing a law to ban guns for most people.*

Democrats not only want to ban plastic guns, they want to ban the
manufacture of firearms without “smart” technology. They also want to force
manufacturers and anyone else trying to sell a firearm to retrofit their
guns.

This sort of technology makes it so that only an “authorized” user can
operate the gun. In other words, a child or other non-authorized person
couldn’t shoot the gun. Only the owner could.

While this technology obviously *can* be beneficial, it can also be a
hindrance. And just because it’s beneficial doesn’t mean that the force of
government should be used to *mandate* that guns have this “smart” feature,
especially considering current costs to be in compliance with such a law.

But then again, these are liberal Democrats we’re talking about here.
They’re always trying to control people, their bodies, and their belongings
and trample on their civil rights. CNS News reported
<http://cnsnews.com/news/article/eric-scheiner/senate-bill-must-retrofit-handgun-smart-gun-tech-sale>
:

*Democratic Senators Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Elizabeth Warren
(D-Mass.) have put forth a bill that could drastically impact gun sales in
America.*

*Last week Markey and Warren introduced The “**Handgun Trigger Safety Act*
<http://www.markey.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/2015-06-02-SmartGuns-BillText-.pdf>*”.
It would mandate that in 10 years “anyone selling a handgun must retrofit
it with personalization technology before that sale can be completed.”*

*It would also ban the “manufacture in the United States a handgun that is
not a personalized handgun” within 5 years of the measure being enacted.*

*Smart gun technology allows a handgun to only be operated by an authorized
user. It generally works through finger or palm print recognition,
electronic password or coded lock, or a gun that needs to be in proximity
to a specific watch or bracelet in order to operate.*

*Currently smart gun technology is pricey. The Armatix iP1 is the first
smart handgun to be sold in the U.S. **with a reported price of $1,800*
<http://www.ibtimes.com/armatix-ip1-first-smart-gun-sold-usa-video-1557231>
*.*

*In a **press release*
<http://www.markey.senate.gov/news/press-releases/on-national-gun-violence-awareness-day-sen-markey-and-rep-maloney-introduce-legislation-to-increase-gun-safety-and-reduce-gun-violence>*
Markey says, the measure would also “authorize grants to develop and
improve ‘personalized’ handgun technology to increase efficacy and decrease
costs.”*

*It would also “provide reimbursement to manufacturers for the costs of
retrofitting handguns through the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture
Fund.” *

I can see why gun owners would like smart technology for their firearms.
It’s like a primary safety switch. And I can also see why gun owners might *not
*want it.

And that’s why this decision should be left up to the gun owner, not the
government. There are lots of things that might make life safer or better,
but which are costly. People who can afford it can pay for it. But those
who can’t afford it shouldn’t be forced by government to purchase it.
Forcing people to buy something, no matter how good the product might be,
defeats the purpose of competition. Once the government gets involved, the
quality of the product they’re peddling goes down, and the price goes up.
