I'm afraid you are right Brian. I'm not sure our political masters think this is a bad thing. Might they like have the available force to subdue the population. Either actively or passively. We all already think twice about what we say in public. Cautious as to who might freak out at a differing opinion.
Perhaps they think that they can handle the islamists and having lots of armed police and troops in the cities could come in handy when we plebs get out of hand.
