The term itself, according to Claire Berlinski (see berlinski.com), was created by The Institute for Islamic Thought which is located in Northern Virginia and is reported to be a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood. By its very nature, the word attempts to assign some sort of mental dysfunction to any who oppose Islam as the definition of a phobia is as follows: Phobia: “an exaggerated, inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object or class of objects.” Reference: Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, 1977 Edition. Given that definition and the quotations and facts listed below we can certainly ask the question “Is it a “phobia” to fear Islam? The following referenced quotations are taken from the Quran. It is the duty of those of the Islamic faith to either convert or to wage war against all who are not Muslims. In addition, Islam divides the world into two distinctly defined parts. Those territories under Islamic control are known as “Dar al-Islam” or “The Land of Islam” and those territories not under Islamic control are referred to as “Dar al-Harb” or “The Land of War”. A gunman opened fire at the Krudttoenden caf√© and later at the Great Synagogue in Copenhagen <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen>, killing two civilians and injuring five others. France April 19, 2015—A 32-year Frenchwoman is murdered by a gunman whose plot to attack a church is foiled shortly after. United States May 3, 2015—Two gunmen attacked the Curtis Culwell Center <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Culwell_Center_attack> during a ‘Draw Muhammad’ cartoon art exhibit in Garland, Texas <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garland,_Texas> . 2 dead (perpetrators) 1 injured. France June 26, 2015—Saint-Quentin-Fallavier attack <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Quentin-Fallavier_attack>—Beheading in a factory near Lyon, head marked with Arabic writing and Islamist flags. Gas canisters planted provoked a fire. 1 dead, 11 injured. Israel June 29, 2015—2015 Shuvat Rachel shooting <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Shuvat_Rachel_shooting> shooting attack on civilian car, 1 death. United States-July 16, 2015, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez opened fire on two military installations <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_base> in Chattanooga, Tennessee <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chattanooga,_Tennessee>. A Navy <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy> sailor, a Marine recruiter, and a police officer were wounded; the sailor died from his injuries two days later. India July 27, 2015—2015 Gurdaspur attack <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Gurdaspur_attack> Three Islamic terrorists of Pakistani origin from Indian-administrated Kashmir disguised in army uniforms attacked the Dina Nagar police station in Gurdaspur District of Punjab, India. The attack resulted in the deaths of 3 policemen, 4 civilians and 15 others were injured. France August 21, 2015—2015 Thalys train attack <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Thalys_train_attack> Shooting and stabbing in train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris injures 5. Australia October 2, 2015—2015 Parramatta shooting <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Parramatta_shooting>. A NSW Police Force <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSW_Police_Force> civilian employee was shot dead outside NSW Police Force headquarters on Charles Street, Parramatta <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parramatta>, Sydney by a 15-year old lone gunman. France November 13, 2015—A series of terrorist attacks in Paris <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_2015_Paris_attacks> kill 137, and wound 368. They involved a series of coordinated attacks which consisted of mass shootings and suicide bombings. Philippines Malaysia November 17, 2015—A Malaysian national is beheaded by Abu Sayyaf <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Sayyaf> in the southern Philippines. United States December 2, 2015—In the 2015 San Bernardino attack <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_San_Bernardino_attack>, two people, one of whom posted on Facebook an “oath of allegiance” to the leader of ISIL <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISIL>, shot and killed 14 people and injured 21 others in a killing spree that the FBI was investigating as “act of terrorism”. Russia December 29, 2015—A gunman opened fire on a group of local residents who were visiting a viewing platform at the fortress in Derbent <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derbent>, Dagestan <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagestan>, southern Russia, killing one and injuring 11. ISIL claims responsibility. India January 2, 2016—In the 2016 Pathankot attack <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Pathankot_attack> suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaish-e-Mohammed> militants attacked an Indian air base killing 7 security force members. Several injured. France January 11, 2016—A 15-year old Turkish ISIL supporter attacked a teacher from a Jewish school in Marseille <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marseille> with a machete. Belgium March 22, 2016—2016 Brussels bombings <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Brussels_bombings> includes two suicide bombings <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Brussels_bombings> in Brussels <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels>Airport <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels_Airport> and one bombing in Brussels <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels> Metro <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels_Metro> that resulted in 35 deaths and more than 300 wounded. United States June 12, 2016—49 people were killed and 53 injured in a mass shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Orlando_nightclub_shooting>. France June 14, 2016—Two French citizens, a police officer and his wife were stabbed to death in Magnanville <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Magnanville_stabbing>, France by a man swearing his allegiance to ISIL. France July 14, 2016 - 14 July 2016, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a Franco-Tunisian, deliberately drove a cargo truck into a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France, killing at least 84 people and injuring many more. It should be noted that nowhere within this article has the author expressed any personal opinions regarding the term “Islamophobia”, Islam, the Quran or Muslim people. The definition of a phobia comes directly from Webster’s Dictionary. The quotations come directly from the Quran. The list of violent acts committed in the name of Islam can easily be confirmed from news sources. Given these facts it should be painfully clear that Islam openly defines itself, by word and deed to be a real and physical danger to those who are not Muslim. *Conclusion: When a clear and present danger exists, it simply cannot be illogical to recognize it as such and to warn others about it and doing either can in no way ever be a “phobia”.* * The above list includes only attacks carried out by Muslims in basically non-Muslim countries. During the same period of time (2015 through mid-July 2016) there were 135 additional attacks carried out by Muslims in predominately Muslim countries.
