Hey Perp! Because, for years, I-4 is, and has always been a literal death trap! For years, it was four lane, with Bob's Barricades strung out from Daytona to downtown Tampa! Today, some of those original Bob's Barricades are still in place; there are stretches that are now 10 and 12 lane, and it's still a death trap! Like in Atlanta, construction on the highway is a "Constant"....It will never be completed!
The connector to I-275, which was rebuilt maybe three or four years ago, is two lanes that narrows down to one lane as it empties onto 275 in downtown Tampa.....I-275 by the way, was originally I-75 until the mid 1980s when I-75 was completed and runs just barely east of Tampa. There's more deathly wrecks on that stretch of Interstate, than on any other segment of Florida's Interstate Highway system.
