Should we really be using the military for social engineering experiments?

The U.S. Air Force has granted transgenders the option to skip fitness
tests while they are “transitioning.”

According to Secretary of the Air Force Deborah James, who played a pivotal
role in initiating the exemption:

This is another step in allowing transgender Airmen to serve openly,
receive medical care relating to gender transition and allow transgender
individuals to join the Air Force…Our strengths as a military are the
quality and character of our people, and those things that make us unique
are the same things that make us strong.

Specifically, the option to skip the fitness test applies to transgenders
“during their period of transition, prior to a gender marker change in the
MilPDS.”

Although the initiative might seem well-intentioned, the truth is that it
essentially amounts to nothing more than reverse discrimination against
non-transgender men and women.

If normal men and women are forced to work *harder* than transgenders in
order to qualify for the same job, that’s discrimination.

And of course, there’s no denying that fitness tests serve a critical
function in the military. Without high standards of physical endurance,
soldiers not only endanger themselves but also their comrades on the
battlefield.

But it’s not just the military: efforts to “equalize” perceived
“inequality” has also infected fire departments and police departments
across the United States.

Instead of transgenders, though, it involves female firefighters and
officers who cannot compete with men in fitness tests.

>From push-ups to pull-ups, women’s general inability to match the skill of
men has caused some to believe an injustice occurred. This, predictably, is
followed by lawsuits.

Like the case

in
Colorado Springs where 12 female police officers collectively filed a
lawsuit claiming gender discrimination because the women could not perform
a variety of fitness requirements to the level that men, on average, were
able to perform.

The Colorado Springs Police Department ultimately discontinued their
fitness tests pending the result of the lawsuit.

Ironically, this effort to ensure equality within the academy ended up
being nothing more than reverse discrimination against men because it
essentially excused the women’s physical shortcomings—an exemption unlikely
to ever be offered to male officers.
