Yes, they are. My mom joined the Army the year she turned 50; she was a nurse and they were in bad need of them so the normal age restrictions were waived for nurses and other healthcare workers.
Anyway, she wasn't in horrible shape when she went to Officer's Training, but she was a bit overweight and wasn't one to exercise much. When she came back 6 weeks later looking fit and trim and wearing Spandex, I couldn't believe it. She'd been hanging with a bunch of "kids" in their late teens and early 20s, and keeping up with them. I'm sure it wasn't easy, but she did it. Now, the nutjobs running the military - including the Commander In Chief - think it makes sense to lower standards any which way they can. It's disgusting, IMO, and precisely how we ended up with that piece of shit Bowe Bergdahl (who STILL hasn't been punished for endangering his fellow troops' lives). Hillary will be exactly like Obama in this regard - making the military into a career of choice for only misfits and ex-cons.
