At this point, Obama's supporters could care less if he was born in a
mosque in Mecca. Which is why we formed the Electoral College,
essentially to override a popular vote based on hysteria.
Notwithstanding the hysteria of the electors themselves.

Regarding the Constitution, it's an ideal that has since devolved into
lip service. That's my opinion, particularly because the country
operates based on corporate law, specifically the Uniform Commercial
Code (UCC). Which is a lot more reliable - and effective - than the
panoply of constitutional interpretation turned into "law" based on
some immediate situation. And later reversed or amended based on the
changing balance of the court. Bolstered by the belief that the
Constitution is a "living" document, therefore subject to radical -
even contradictory - change. Just look at the fear of "Roe," and look
back at KELO where the government nullified private property via
Eminent Domain - which, for example, allowed the City of New York to
seize the building which is now the NYT headquarters.

As for Obama, I believe the doctrine of greater good will apply,
because when the people demand a messiah, a messiah they shall have.

We are not a country of laws, but of people. The ideal says otherwise,
but the proof is in the law - how it twists and turns to accommodate
the will of the current political court.

I think the current governor of Florida, Charlie Christ, put it best
when as Florida's Attorney General he said regarding his intention to
destroy DNA evidence in cases older than 2 years: "Expediency is more
important than innocence."

In essence, he was stating the application of "greater good," that if
innocent men die on death row, that's a necessary price in the
maintenance of an "efficient" system.

This how the political class think, and will always think. And why
we'll have wars until no one is left standing.
