The constitution also guarantees freedom from religion. (in many 'languages 'of and from' are the same word) In the eighteenth century that was a big deal as most European nations had official religions, as practiced by the monarch. In Spain, the only legal religion was Catholicism. In the UK, the Test and Tolerance Act was in effect until 1835, which made the Church of England the official religion of the UK, It provided that only Anglicans could hold public office, and only the Anglican clergy could baptise, and marry Britons. Catholics were barred. If you check the Constitution Act of 1794, which created the British colonies of Upper and Lower Canada, Guy Carleton (Lord Dorchester) believed that the lack of a gentry, and the lack of a state religion, had lead to the sedition in the American colonies excluding Quebec. For examples of how a state religion works, the Taliban had one establised in Afghanistan in 2003. The Islamic Republic of Iran, is also an example of a Theorcracy. Then of course there is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where access to the countries resources is largely restricted ot a single family. The framers of the US Constitution did know what they were doing, at a time when almost every American was a believer, and most were Christian.
