It's tempting except I am out of space in my kitchen freezer and don't
want to start up the freezer in the basement. I'll think about it. G.
donated her large roaster to Goodwill and is winding up with 20+ for
Thanksgiving. S. is helping her single daughter move to CA. I thought
it might be funny to roast a Cornish Game Hen on my own but settled on
a whole chicken but even that seems too much to cook. The canned
pumpkin for pie may wind up as a bisque. The cranberries plus cream
cheese may frost a bagel. Anyway, for those of you posters that might
be single, consider this turkey bargain as it is probably the cheapest
you will find high protein all year. If you thaw the bird, you can
dismember it just like a chicken. Try to buy a smaller turkey so you
won't be wreastling with a 25 pounder, Try to cook and refreeze.
Breasts can be pounded, stuffed and rolled- try Italian sausage,
mushrooms, tomatoes, oregano and garlic. Wings, legs, spine and bones
can be saved for soup. Thighs are the tastiest part of the bird. You
could also grind up thawed raw turkey and use for burgers, sausage or
meat balls. Turkey adapts to most chicken recipes like Tettrazini or
curries. You can cook it in your kettle barbacue or deep-fat fry it.
But then...when I think of the odor of roasting a whole turkey, I gag,
as it happened during those green days of pregnancies and never left
my memory.
