It's a great idea and the only one that makes sense. However, we seem
to be caught in a deadly spiral. As the economy worsens and people
have less money, they depend more on the big box stores for cheap
prices. There were reports during the holidays that Walmart was doing
fine while other retailers were suffering. It's the cheap prices!
Local goods, while probably better quality, cannot compete pricewise
when someone has a very limited amount of money in their pocket right
that minute.
