Arctic Park in Canada Closes After Record Heat Waves Saturday August 2, 2008
Auyuittuq National Park in Canada is closed. Forget skiing. Forget hiking. Forget sightseeing. The park, which covers 19,000 square miles, has been hit hard by warming temperatures. Melting permafrost and flooding have literally caused many areas of the park to erode away. Temperatures reached 81 degrees Fahrenheit which is well above the July average of 54 degrees.
