Fritzie!! At the risk of being called a pompous windbag ass again, I would like to point out a couple of things....
Fritz, I feel confident that you, Biff, Euwe and several others that post a lot on these boards who usually convey a more liberal perspective understand the difference, but just for the sake of clarity, there is a big distinction between "conservatives" and "Republicans". "Conservatives" are not the same as "Republicans". There are a number of folks under the Republican Tent, to include "centrists", "libertarians", "progressives"; "egalitarians", "traditionalists", "enterprisers", and "religious fundamentalists". Before the 1950s, there were no conservatives. There were traditionalists and libertarians who opposed the dominant welfare state liberal ideology, and there were Republicans who were "do it slower-than-the Democrats,” moderates. But there were no conservatives in the modern sense. Modern conservatism was invented at National Review magazine in the mid fifties, primarily by editor, William F. Buckley, Jr. Conservatism's highest value is liberty, but it was a freedom to be used responsibly as a means to pursue traditionally defined and virtuous ends. The formula was, and continues to be to this day: "Conservatism equals relying upon libertarian means to pursue traditional ends". >From this formula flowed conservatism's support of Western values as desired ends and opposition to both domestic statism and international communism, as enemies of those ends. Judeo Christian morality, the family, religion, local communities and national patriotism were the values that Buckley (and Frank Meyer, Buckley's partner at National Review) defined as Western tenets. Conservatism also encompasses the principles and support of individual freedom, free markets, voluntary associations, local governments, unfettered businesses; especially small businesses; and capitalism generally. Fritz, America is predominately conservative. If you cannot see that, then it is you that is out of touch with reality! Some of the things that you, (And Biff!!) write are from a conservative slant!!! Most Americans hold the traditional principles and tenets I listed above, first and foremost! There are a number of individuals who espouse an Anti-American rhetoric and diatribe, to include socialist principles as well as far left extremist ideals, and these folks have taken over the Democrat Party. Lil' Moonbat Mikey is a classic example of someone who espouses Anti-American rhetoric. Please keep this statement in mind, I wrote this several months ago, and I challenge anyone to tell me that it is based on an incorrect premise: "ALL AMERICANS; that is to say, EACH AND EVERY AMERICAN, wants, desires and has a quest for the opportunity and freedom for ALL citizens to achieve their goals and reach financial security if only they work hard enough, without the ability of the fruits of their labor being redistributed by an Orwellian "Big Brother" ". As you know, I was President Bush's harshest critic. President Bush abandoned Reagan conservatism and became a one dimensional figure that could spend any Democrat under the table. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq helped fuel a false economy that was being driven by wild Wall Street speculation that ran roughshod over the Administration’s impotent regulators who would have been better off being managed by Barney Fife. No question, the Republicans have lost their way. That is the reason that approximately 8 months ago, I became active once again in Republican politics, in an attempt to take my party back from the likes of what many term, "Neo-Cons", (who by definition, are former Democrats) and from the religious zealots who have wrested control from the Reaganesque "conservative libertarians" of the Republican Party. Having said that, anyone who has really delved into the cause of the financial meltdown of our Nation, and truly knows the facts, could never vote for a Democrat ever again. The root cause of the current financial quagmire that all Americans suffer from today, was caused by three little words, a whole lotta syllables: the "Community Reinvestment Act". I spent over four hours yesterday researching different legislation and the House and Senate Record after Studio and Doc Holiday submitted several articles, one in particular that former Governor Eliot Spitzer wrote back this past fall, and the bottom line is, the financial debacle that we collectively face was predominately caused by Democrats, plain and simple. We are now venturing into uncharted socialistic waters under the Obama Administration. You Sir, are as conservative as I am!! You just have not woke up and realized this fact yet!!
