My paternal grandmother was entirely French so I've heard I could apply to be a French citizen. It is said she was a wonderful musician with a sweet disposition- I never met her- who married a Scot- Irishman- never met him either- and was the mother of eight sons and one daughter. My Aunt D. told me all the neighbor ladies would start vigorously sweeping their front porches when my grandfather walked home as he was quite handsome- I suppose he is, from the photo- but he was also severe- probably as the result of failures in business ventures. My father was a notable success but never forgot the beating he took from his father when he bought a suit with money he earned instead of giving it to the family. It probably spurred my father to extravagance.// France is a perfect counterweight to England and Germany. What's not to love and admire- except for its governance and army? The chateaus and cathedrals, fashion, food, wine, the nuanced language, etc.//Being part French is not a birth defect- it is a gift.
