Hello Dik, I will be the first to admit, (and argue with my most esteemed co-moderator, "The Annointed One"!) that our Nation has made numerous foreign policy "faux pas" over the course of the last two hundred years. Hindsight is beautiful.....It is easy to "Monday Morning Quarterback".
Having said that, our "intervention" in Kuwait was based on an international threat to the flow of energy, and global expansion by a brutal thug with two sons named Tit and Tat, (or something like that) who had intentions of cornering the market and controlling that flow of energy, at his, and his son's, "Pepto's" and "Bismal's" behest. Our support of Israel is just a fact. Whether you like it, or don't like it, this is a decision that has been made for over 60 years now, and, "It Is, What It Is". Again, I emphasize that we have made some bad foreign policy mistakes over the past 200 years, and some of our decisions regarding Israel, ( in particular not holding Israel's feet to the fire in ALL of the provisions of Un Resolution 242) is but one example. To the point, assuming that we "intervened" where ever the Hell we felt like "intervening" does not give any other Nation-State, nor does it give a bunch of raggamuffins who sport dirty laundry on their head, the right or dominion to fly commercial airliiners into our skycrapers, period. The examples that you give are far too complex in order to give one sentence answers or responses, but I see no analogy or comparison to the Hutsi Tribe and the Tutu especially with our Nation's and the current Presidential Administration's, "position of neutrality" that is currently taking place with regard to the incidents in Iran.
