Good point. Very good point. I don't think Persians are any better informed about us than the average American is about them. It's funny to me that so many Conservatives here complain about "state-run" media and yet, claim to know so much about Iran by quoting what? American Media. lol. Like Americans, the Persians think we hate them for no reason because that is what they are told by their politicians and media (unfortunately, it's pretty true). Like Americans, Persians think much of this hatred toward them is based on religion because their media reminds them of all the genocide that Christianity has been responsible for and that our politicians say things like "Killing Muslims is God's Work" or quote the Bible in their military memoranda (also, sadly true). They also believe that there are millions of Americans who have no personal experience with Islam but hate all Muslims through ignorance and prejudice (as has been shown on this very board, true). Like Americans, Persians generally look down on their politicians and know that those in the spotlight are rarely those possessing the real power.
Unlike (White Anglo-Saxon Christian) Americans, I have never entered a Persian household without being kissed by everyone in the room (including the men - it's not a gay thing there) and told that I am too thin, thus subsequently force fed lest I insult my host. Think "My Big Fate Persian Wedding" with different food. It's not that my American friends aren't as warm or loving, it's just a different culture. Oh, and none of them have tried to bomb me or kill me in my sleep....
