I would first of all pay some attention to cutting spending instead of all these earmarks. I would also read the bills I was voting on and discuss what the various amendments are about and who benefits ( cui bono). I would stop the fingerpointing. I would cut programs that have historically shown that they do not work. I would try to work with both sides instead of trying to game the system as both sides are now, especially the Dems IMNSHO. I would cut the taxes on corporations so that they have a shot a making a profit. As it stands now the corporations are competing with overseas corporations that have lower corporation taxes than we do. I would try to support the corporations that are creating jobs instead of bloviating about how in a year or so I would be creating all these phantom jobs that will last just long enough for the next election and then the funding will cease. I would open the bidding up to all corporations instead of just those who have unions and thus cost a lot more for doing less. I would get out of the way of people who are doing real work instead of trying to micromanage them. The current government environment is much too risk-averse. I would cut a lot of the welfare benefits and do something about getting the people off welfare as a way of life and onto the work rolls. I would do something about the hiring of illegals. I would cut back the minimum wage to where it was last year because those who work for the minimum wage are generally only working at that rate until they get their feet wet in the jobs and then they get raises; that would open up more hiring possibilities and also lead to workers who are gainfully employed. They may get low wages to start but that is a start and that is all most need to become productive. I would crack down on the lobbyists (something Bambi said he would do and instead he is so busy hiring them that it is ridiculous and the Congress is so busy grabbing the bucks hand over fist from the lobbyists that they are ridiculous). I would enforce the ethics on both sides of the aisle so that those who have gone beyond the pale for years would have to stop it and pay up the back taxes and stop gouging the public. I would make sure that the appointees do not have ridiculous flaws like being in charge of the treasury and not paid taxes for years or being in charge of the environment and telling the staff not to put anything in writing as is currently going on. I would stop paying big bucks to organizations like ACORN that go out of their way to bypass real electoral guidelines. I would stop the whole spending all the time campaigning and actually do some work.
That would do for starters. The main thing is to get the government out of the way so that it supports, not tangles up the people who are actually doing something. You can see a lot of the problems by just looking at some of the New England states. They used to have a lot of industry but because of the way that govt interfered with them and taxed them and put unsupportable burdens on them they bailed out and went elsewhere, some overseas, some to states that were more business-friendly.
