Holly - First of all, thanks for making that point. Too many are far too lazy or simply do not understand the difference. It needs to be taught better.
Second, I believe that no amendment did more harm than the 17th. While I understand the purpose, I deplore the result. The end result of the populist movement toward direct election of Senators was to create a super-class of representative of the people. In the process, the states actually lost power and the federal government gained power and the people are probably less well represented as a result. I really wish we could take that one back.
