I started researching colleges about a year ago since I have a kid in high school. One thing I found unbelievably noticeable was how totally pervaded the Ivy League schools are with affirmative action. They admit anywhere from 40-50+% minorities and readily admit that "credit" is given for skin color in both the admissions process and for financial aid.
I found my daughter's reaction to this enlightening. She suddenly had zero desire to attend a college that values lowered standards, skin color or whatever bs community service project someone did over the summer more than they do intellect and academic achievement. She's visited two colleges thus far that make no bones about stating that nothing takes priority in their admissions and scholarship programs more than academic achievement and was thankful to learn there are still a few such places left that do. The point is, I can't imagine she's alone in her thinking on this. I'd like to see more of the best and the brightest thumbing their noses at these liberal bs Ivy League schools and opting for those "lesser" universities that only take the high achievers. You have to wonder if employers aren't noticing a difference in the caliber of education from these so-called "hallowed institutions of learning" that graduate affirmative action losers like Gates.
