The longer we stay and the more troops we have there, the more resentment they will have of occupiers and the more resentment the American people will have of our incompetent leaders that keep us there as an occupying force. It's really that simple.
I've said before multiple times that the US should have quick response teams to go in when needed and leave just as fast as the situations arise. If the Taliban were to assume political power again, it's just as easy if not much easier for the US to remove them again...then leave. The population will get the message the Taliban brings no progress only continuing destruction.
