Last night's primary returns in Illinois saw Kirk pull 56% of the vote among Republicans, while Giannoulias wooed but 39% of Democrats. In what we are sure was an absolutely rousing victory speech, Kirk slammed "the arrogance of a one-party state" and cheered, "We are Americans and we can do anything" except negotiate health care, get people back to work, or control spending. Giannoulias interpreted his narrow victory as a sign that voters "wanted a senator who will limit Washington special interests and protect the jobs of everyday Illinois families." Apparently, there is still much optimism in Illinois. Also, there was a governor's primary, but it's hard to care about these things with Blago gone. 2.)
