You know, I know this is an old "story" that's been posted a few times and maybe there's already been some good debate over it, but I can't help but notice that Studio's response was to simply dismiss it as nonsense and then proceed to joke about it. The truth of the matter is I think this story is precisely why bigger government and increasing of social programs hurts the economy and the country.
For example, I've got a sister-in-law who is completely healthy, educated and fully capable of working but for the past four years she has milked the system and lived off the government (i.e., my back). Worse still is she has a daughter who has seizures. She allows her daughter unlimited video game time and other things known to make the seizures worse. She now receives SS child disability checks. She gives my niece a few bucks each month (which is promptly spent on junk) and she keeps the rest to spend on herself. She is NOT using it for medical care for her daughter (she lets Medicaid and other social programs handle that). She's become an expert on cheating the unemployment program, milks the SS system and sits on her ass all day, all because she's lazy and because she can. Those of us who resist expanding social programs are branded as uncaring but nothing could be further from the truth. I do care about those who are truly needy. What I object to is a government that is too lazy to try to control fraud and would rather just continue to throw money at broken programs. My sister-in-law needs to be working and contributing to society, not sitting on her ass and stealing from the tax payers.
