Dear Readers: The Tea Party rallies had a freshness to the energy and patriotism that were being expressed. But I'm saddened to realize the apparent lose-lose direction that the Tennessee convention has taken... Having lower taxes; smaller and more accountable government; and more fiscal responsibility, including a balanced budget—by constitutional amendment or otherwise—are objectives very close to those in the typical Republican Party planks. One of the convention organizers said that forming a third party wasn't an objective. Rather, he said that electing people with the right ideals and accountability would be. And getting congressional Republicans to stick to their conservative ideals, rather than bending... across party lines.
Be it known: For the past half century or more, apparently right- minded Republicans have been getting elected! Yet... our government has grown beyond being controllable. Having the Tea Party Movement elect even the most conservative people can never change things in Washington! I repeat: Having the Tea Party Movement elect even the most conservative people can never change things in Washington! Once in Congress, the deals that destroy conservatism are the compromises necessary to get the needed votes on any 'pet' bill. The new guys learn that they must vote for the pet projects of other congressmen and senators in order to be assured that the needed votes will be there for the new man's pet project. Everything gets neutralized PDQ, and the hopes of conservatives die... for another two or six years. *** The USA can't be saved by SACRIFICING more good men and women in congress!! Get this through your heads people: Government has evolved to be an elitist RULING CLASS that's not responsive to the Will of the People. Somehow, those in government have gotten the notion that they can change the USA from the Representative Republic which they all have sworn to uphold, into a socialist system of government. That traitor, Barack Obama, villainizes the "fat cats" in hopes that the lazy beggars being sought-out by this year’s census-takers can finally have the controlling power. GOVERNMENT is broke (and broke, financially)! The needed fix is to STRENGTHEN the constitution so that those in congress won't include any career politicians, nor be answerable to any political party systems. My New Constitution has strong and simple-to-understand objectives. Read the links and start talking about changing the RULES of the game of government, rather than letting that GAME (failed government) rule US. — John A.
