Absolutely.
And what I noticed after 9-11 was an onslaught of patriotic country
music.
For the most part I don't like country music because it bores me with
it's blue drone and undramatic drama... it's simply not exciting or
thought provoking for the most part.
But thought provoking isn't the goal is it?
They want unthinking robots to do their bidding and what better genre
to do that than popular patriotic BS music.

The great big band drummer Buddy Rich was asked by a newspaper
reporter once while playing in Tennessee what he thought of country
music; his words can't be repeated here.
Following his statement the venue where he was playing got bomb
threats. (I wonder by who...?)
Prior to heart surgery, when asked by a nurse if he was allergic to
anything; he replied, "Yes, Country and Western music!"
For any drummer that wants demanding music, country music is a dead-
end go nowhere gig....but maybe some easy money.

As an aside:
truly great drummers (or any musician for that matter) can play
anything and don't get stuck in one genre unless they think the music
demands more from them and pushes their abilities forward.
True, you won't see many banjos or gee-tars in a classical
orchestra...

i.e. Buddy could play anything, and I mean literally anything.
Once he was a guest on a TV show and the host produced some coins and
paper money... Buddy took his sticks and played the money!
Or when on The Muppet Show he literally played his way on various
objects from his "dressing room" to his drum kit.
Or the time where he had a broken arm in a sling and had to play at
the notoriously difficult Apollo Theater in Harlem.... he started
playing just before the curtain rose and by the time the audience
could see he had a broken arm, they were on their feet applauding with
approval.
Or when he played Tablas with a very famous Indian drummer Allah
Rakha. Many Indians spend their entire lives playing this instrument
in order to become masters or nearly as famous as Allah Rakha. Buddy
played them at a master level.
Or the time he went on a State Department tour in the 60's to
Afghanistan and played for the King there... he forced the King and
audience to applaud and not voice their approval as is their custom.
Or when he played with classical orchestras... one very famous
conductor/composer said upon seeing Buddy play at a concert; "I never
realized that drums could be played in such a way".
The stories are many, and he never disappointed an audience.

He started playing when only 18 months of age and never did anything
else his entire life.
Not to mention inspiring millions of kids and drummers all over the
world.
The point is, he could play anything anywhere anytime and was a true
master of his instrument, and of music.

Others might point to Mighty Mo (Mozart)... another true genius and
not a phony wanna-be.... and to be fair there are many genius
musicians around...
Of course I don't mean to be too harsh; music should be about a
certain amount of fun and enjoyment even if it's simple and the
musicianship is poor.
But when politics gets involved and I hear all this country music
patriotic non-sense going on after 9-11 ...it rubs my ears the wrong
way.
