"When one touches a raw ideological nerve -- for example, when one challenges the mythology of Pearl Harbor -- many people react ardently. But the relevant issues do not turn on ardor; they turn on facts, logic and, sometimes, ability to bring pertinent theoretical or conceptual capabilities to bear in an appraisal or analysis. Rather than marshaling these means of carrying out an argument, many aggrieved persons simply lash out with illogical or ad hominem charges against the messenger whose message has given rise to their pain." -- Robert Higgs
