There was a Scottish house-painter named Ewan MacGregor who, being very
good at stretching a penny, often thinned his paint to make it go further.
One day, the local church decided to do a big restoration job on their
house of worship.
Ewen submitted the lowest bid, and got the job. He erected the
scaffolding, set up his ladders, bought the paint and, as usual, thinned it
with turpentine.
A few weeks later, the job was nearly completed. Ewen was up on the
scaffolding, painting away when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of
thunder! The sky opened, and rain poured down in a deluge. It washed
the skimpy paint off the whole church and knocked Ewen from the scaffold.
He fell onto the churchyard grass among the gravestones, surrounded by
telltale puddles of the thinned and ineffective paint.
Ewen was no fool. He knew this was a judgment from the Almighty, so he got
down on his knees and cried: "Oh, God, Oh God, forgive me; what should I
do?"
And from the thunder, a mighty voice spoke....
"Repaint!"
"Repaint!"
"And thin no more!"
