They were well within the test now and each had tested the
other out, landing and blocking blows to each without that much of an
impact.
That was, until Mitchell's expression shifted into cold
disdain and he tried to lash out to catch her fully in the face.
But, Julia had already been intending his action.
Was, in fact, surprised it took him this long not to use this opportunity like
she knew he wanted to. She shifted and his would be blow glanced off of
her shoulder.
She used the momentum against him and raised her hand as
his fist connected and then passed her, knocking it up and giving her an opening
to his side that she took without hesitation, catching him full on his side,
making him grunt in reaction and shift his weight.
It was another opening she was waiting for and when he
shifted his weight to one leg she pushed his shoulder hard, making him fall back
onto his back with a resounding UMPH.
She backed up a few steps and let him catch his
breath. She wasn't here to carry out a personal grudge. She was here
to prove she had what it took to continue her position within the San Francisco
House.
But Mitchell wasn't and they both knew it. It was
obvious he wanted to hurt her.
He got up and growled.
It was no longer a test but a fight, pure and
simple.
Mitchell was barely able to remind himself of his goal to
keep from showing his true self and strength and make him pay for what she was
doing now.
And, he admitted to himself, getting angry, her blows
weren't as ineffective as he let on. It was one of the downsides of being
in this human body... and it was pissing him off.
So he got up and they circled each other
again.
"Going to go running to the others now?" Mitchell asked
with a curl of his lip, raising his fists "Or are you going to look at Rachel to
come to your rescue?"
"Miss special since she's come back from the dead," he
added, lashing out suddenly, only to have his move blocked by a too-calm Julia
"Charmed the socks off of everyone because Nick sleeps with you."
The back of Julia's fist shot out in the middle of the
block and caught him in the nose before she pulled it back and swiveled on her
back leg, bringing the opposite hand around and catching him on the side of the
face, calm unemotional expression in place as she then shifted back into a
classical fighting defensive stance.
"Sounds to me," she returned almost conversationally, as
if bored "Like someone's jealous."
He sneered and kicked out, only to have Julia catch that
blow as well and yank at his leg and making him fall onto his back before
releasing it.
"Jealous of what? You being his whore?" he asked as he
rolled and came back up, fists raised and ready for when he saw an opening "You
really think they'll evaluate you fairly knowing you're fu- UGH!"
Julia's move had been quick and made him bite his tongue
hard. And the bitch was smiling at what she did!
He struck out, his hand especially, and short of
extraordinarily, fast as it lashed out and caught Julia on the side of her
head.
But, again, Julia was ready, took the blow and hit his
hand away, her next hit landing just below his rib cage and almost making him
double over.
He chuckled through the pain, humorless and
cool.
"You can't make me react angrily trying to use Nick."
Julia told him. There was no he could make her doubt him or the
others. There was no way he could make her even think of feeling bad about
being with Nick. Because it was right.
"But your personality?" she added "That pisses me
off."
That was enough out of the bitch, he thought before he
struck out, letting some of his nether world strength leak into his next couple
of blows and finally sending Julia down to one knee and looking up at him with a
measure of confusion, aggression and promise as she coughed and held her
stomach.
She wasn't going to look back at Rachel. She was
going to face Mitchell.
"What now, hmm?" Mitchell asked, actually leaning down to
her and sneering "Call London and shout foul or just surpass the formalities as
if I'm going to pass you and fail you now?"
Julia looked up at him, half expecting him to have tried
to pull this too. She also took advantage of his position and launched
both of her fists up, joined, and into the bottom of his jaw, sending him
reeling back and away from her.
"Julia..? What the hell....?" she heard Rachel's voice
calling out in the distance. She must have figured that what the two had
been doing had nothing to do with testing. And she wasn't
alone.
Derek had come out to look for himself, giving Alex time
to change and join him to review what the computer might have turned up about
their arrogant 'visitor'.
Mitchell picked up Julia's towel and wiped his mouth,
giving her a quick 'well here comes your rescue' taunting look before turning to
the ones approaching at a faster than normal pace.
Julia stood, went over to him, and took her towel from him
just as Derek reached them.
"What da hell do you think you're doing?" Derek lashed out
at Mitchell "Get out. Now. Or so help me...OUT!"
Mitchell gave Julia a small snide smile before giving the
others a small salute and Rachel a look all her own.
"I think I'll do that. Just as soon as I make a
phone call to let them know I'm leaving without the test
completion."
Derek growled as Mitchell walked past them and started
toward the house. Julia had to grab his arm to keep him from
following.
Then she pressed the towel into his hand and murmured low
as soon as Mitchell was out of earshot "Have Alex run this."
Derek looked down at the towel and then at Julia, nodding
once.
"I'll make sure he gets to his car." Rachel offered,
knowing Derek being near him wasn't the best of ideas at the moment -- she was
just glad Nick wasn't around. She knew there wouldn't have been any
stopping him had he seen what Mitchell was doing to Julia.
"I'll go with you." Julia offered.
Rachel nodded and they went each their own
way.
