Okay... it did make sense, what Alex was saying and she did believe her return wasn't tinted with the dark side.  How could it when she was back with her friends..... was with Nick like she had wanted to be for so long and every single test she had been put through proved nothing was out of the ordinary?

She looked at Alex as her friend explained the rest: Derek's opinion about the demon having made a mistake in that he hadn't gained the key Julia had been guarding the way it had needed to and that the Beings that had allowed Julia's return had had another reason - aside from the righting her wrongful death - in allowing her back.

Julia's gaze slipped to the key in question, a flash of memory coming back - something that rang true about what Alex had just told her.  About the key....

Derek re-entered the Control Room with Philip "Rachel and Kat went shopping for dinner."

He looked at Julia and Nick "I don't want to worry them just yet but I want them followed, to make sure they stay safe.  Alex and Philip, I'll need you to do that.  Julia and Nick I want to go to Mitchell's hotel room and find him.  Call me as soon as you see him but do not let him know you're there."

He then turned to the keys.  They needed to split them up.  To keep everything together....

"I'm going to lock the sephlicurs back into the vault." he said, looking at each of them in turn, gaze somber.

Julia knew what he wanted and rubbing Nick's back once under his jacket, knowing it would upset him to see what she was about to do but wanting to comfort him because she knew she had to do it, she stood and went to the table.  She looked back at Derek who moved to her side and typed in the security code, lowering the field, before looking back at the key.

They each watched as, with fingers steadier than she thought was possible right now, she reached out and picked up the jade key, holding it for a brief moment before moving to put the necklace it was on around her neck.

Derek clenched his jaw and did the same with the key was to protect, looking at Julia with a determined expression.  He would die before letting anything happen to her and knew the others felt the same.

She smiled tremulously and hugged him, whispering low in his ear "I know."  Then parted to stand beside Nick, slipping her hand into his.  She couldn't explain it but she felt like they were stronger this time and that, as long as they stayed united, they would make it through it this time.

'They' had promised her as much.
