Alyssa Wells lay curled under the covers holding her favorite stuffed
animal, a rabbit named Fred tightly to her. She had been asleep for a very
long time, and somehow knew it had been longer than usual. During that long
night she dreamed of a trip, a long trip, but everything was very vague and
she couldn't remember much, just a loud noise at one point, a frightening
noise and then the silence of sleep, where she sensed more than realized the
idea of being moved. Now, she felt exhausted and didn't want to open her
eyes. Whatever the dream had been it had worn her out and she didn't want
to wake up and go to school. So, she lay perfectly still and comfortable
leaving her eyes shut. Morning noises, that were familiar, but not the norm
in her house filtered into her ears. She heard distant voices and birds
and....the ocean? No that had to be something else, she wasn't on holiday
and that's the only time she ever heard the ocean outside her windows,
though holidays in the Riveria with her mother, the ones they went on every
Summer and sometimes in the Spring or Fall. As she lay there, pretending to
be asleep, though truthfully not too far from it, she tried to figure out
what it could be.
