Dear,
At the moment I run about 15 NTP servers around the world. 12 of them
are hosted on a XEN vps'es, 3 on dedicated servers.
Some time ago, someone told me that it isn't allowed to run NTP on a
VPS. Is this true or not? May i continue to set up NTP servers on my
VPS'es or only on dedicated servers?
As long as the servers serve reasonably accurate time, virtual servers
are perfectly OK for the pool.
There may be some configuration options that you may need to consider
when running ntpd in a virtual server, such as setting
xen.independent_wallclock on virtual servers running on Xen.
One of my pool servers is a Xen virtual machine and one is virtualized
with kvm. The others are on non-virtualized hosts. I used to have a
VMware virtual server in the pool, but as I'm planning to decommission
that server later this year, I've removed it from the pool (it still
responds to queries, though).
