I am running rrdtool on a FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE / amd64 (Ports are current as of today) without any problems. Probably you need to check the options you have set for building rrdtool.
PS: No need to use "reply all", reply only to the list is perfect, as I do filter e-mails based on the "List-Id" header line.
