Thank you for the additional explanation. I run into the same situation
with Calypso but The Bat, multi-featured creature that it is, can be set to
automatically start if you're surfing and want to send an e-mail from a
website, without manually opening the programme.
To automatically invoke The Bat go to:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs Tab
Under "E-mail" there's a drop down menu where The Bat should be listed. If
you make The Bat the programme that Windows automatically uses for e-mail,
it should start whenever you click on a "mailto@somewhere".
This would have been a nifty bit of advice if it actually worked. Since I
have a similar situation, albeit without the additional problem of the port
25 block, your pointing out the inconvenience of manually starting the
e-mail client, has made me try to remedy this situation on my own computer.
I would be happy to use The Bat with its extensive list of accounts in the
situations you mentioned above instead of Messenger.
I changed the settings, tried it on a website but Messenger still came up.
I restarted thinking that would do it but still no luck. <grrr> Care to
give it a whirl?
A - now in need of a workaround too, in Canada :>(
