Let's all be a little more secure in our opinions everyone. Just
because someone thrashes a band you like or praises a band you hate is
no reason to sow the seeds of your discontent on the list. Suppose that
there had been a week long thread on, oh say, Patti Smith, everyone
drooling over her new album, and I wrote in and said, you know, that was
a really weak album, she sucks. Would that change your opinion - just
by my voicing dissent? Man, I'd hate to get into a religious argument
here :) I'm all for hearing everyone's opinion on everything, pos or
neg.
I think that a lot of people on this list initially joined for the
discussion of "indie-pop" so
that may seem the predominant favorite. But, that is not the case with
everyone. Several months ago, we did a tape exchange, where we all
traded mix tapes. I think it met with some success, but maybe it's time
we do so again?
Briefly, I'd love to hear what everyone else is enjoying right now music
wise, especially this year's releases. My current faves are:
XTC-Apple Venus II
Antony and the Johnsons - Self Titled
Ostara - Secret Homeland
Flesheaters - Ashes of Time (Yeah! New Chris D material!)
Neil Young - Silver and Gold
PS Glad to hear the reviews of Am Psycho. The book is certainly deeper
than it appears on the surface, but I was so afraid that the movie had
toned down the intelligence and sarcasm in favor of a heavy handed and
not so subtle morality play. I'll give the film a shot. Still, and not
to give away any spoilers, I understand that a MAJOR disservice was
done as a wrap up. Do film makers think we are all so stupid we have to
be hit over the head with a hammer so to speak?
