My concern really isn't that Napster "pays up" at all, but that this case
ends up educating the general public on why the idea of Napster is
flawed and that just because we'll never end piracy doesn't mean we
shouldn't do what we can. The hope is that when the law finally deals
with these matters explicitly then it will be less a grey area for the
average user.
As far as where the money goes, Jenny Toomey is also involved in the
Future of Music coalition <http://www.futureofmusic.org> whose effort is
to represent artists that obviously aren't represented by the RIAA. Read
their manifesto!

PS. Oh yes.. on the pop tip, I finally heard samples of Emitt Rhodes's
1st solo album and damn it's good McCartneyish pop. Blows Paul's
post-Beatles catalog out of the water, at least from what I heard..
