Built/tested on current/amd64. Tried on laptop and home computer.
Both can launch decently. Had a snafu in needing to pkg_delete to switch the user number, but other than that sddm slots in well. The prior limitations(not able to get the base WM's in the desktop list, no wayland sessions listed, etc) as last versions. Can use fcitx for CJK input if adding: export XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx export GLFW_IM_MODULE=ibus /usr/local/bin/fcitx5 & to the /etc/sddm/scripts/Xsession for startplasma-x11 and ideally adding fctix to startup applications in plasma-settings. Checked Anthy, Hangul, bopomofo(chewing), pinyin, and norge/es/ch(de)/fr input specifically. Which really helps us polygots/multiliguals and/or people in the global south. For explicitness sake, the above is in the desktop only, sddm itself has a virtual keyboard that lets you put in some missing vowels/accents for a few languages, more might get enabled or configs for that may be shared in the future. Can do hotplug monitors(no audio for DP/HDMI though) and the extra peripherals like mice and keyboards work in xenocara mode. Have not checked touchscreens, yubikeys/hardware-keys, finger scanners, or game controllers. Is still faster than Debian(Tuxedo OS Debian preview) for loading Desktop on these old potatoes at least. Impressive. I'd say it is probably ready to be added and linked into ports and do subsequent changes or improvements from there. No spelling/grammar, formatting nits, or other issues I can find. TLDR: Looks good to ship. Hope this helps. Danke again for all the infrastructure/update churn Sadowski. Happy hacking and may you have success hacking everyone. To bed for me. -- yaydn Felicitous 8.0 release everybody! Huge kudos to all who contributed and/or donated.
