Codex uses Git directly, not just through user commands. For example,
codex-rs/git-utils/src/apply.rs invokes:
git rev-parse --show-toplevel
git apply --check
git apply --3way
It also uses Git for repository inspection and change tracking.
These are normal development features, not unrelated utilities.
Declaring Git as a runtime dependency ensures they are available
without requiring users to install it separately.
If user uses git for his code, the git will be installed.
If user doesn't use git, well, all that command are useless for his
repository.
What did I missed?
Regarding xdg-utils, Codex uses webbrowser::open() for authentication
and opening links. On Unix, xdg-open is one of its supported browser
launch mechanisms.
You suggested to add xdf-utils as dependency to solve login promblem which
can be solve as codex login --device-auth?
It might also be worth adding a line to the README listing the optional
runtime dependencies that could improve the user experience, if you
don't want to add all of them to the port and make it even heavier than
it already is.
