oh, btw - Dovecot SASL certainly isn't one size fits all, it's just (imho) much easier to learn how to configure than Cyrus SASL. you can build highly scalable systems with both. there are huge installations using both Dovecot (e.g. rackspace email hosting) and Cyrus (e.g. Fastmail).
