Hm, given that from what i understand, the symptoms you're seeing...
cant be reproduced anywhere i tried, i'm puzzled. Or i misunderstood
your explanations.

That said, there are two font-related notes in the changelog that i
linked from my commit (but nobody reads commit messages :):

A quick look at the 'list of bugs fixed in this release' (link at the
bottom of the page) yields to some fontconfig-related bugs like

I have of course no idea what this all means :)
