Specifically, at least in gimp, there's obvious font substitution I see diacritics obviously belonging to Dina font. But kana and kanji look very clean and not bitmap, I suspect they get borrowed from another font. Hopefully, you can try copy and pasting the following text in various programs and figure out how it looks: French diacritics Amélie mon cœur Japanese katakana/hiragana ノゾミ, のぞみ Japanese kanji 梅
