Well if it cost $34K to produce a CD and in the Americana format most
artists don't sell 10,000 units more like 5000 How else would you
expect these small labels to recoop the dough. Selling used cds is
probably not as bad as selling Promo Copies. But Things cost a hell of a
lot more now then in the days of Vinyl. The cost to get the licenses
need and is about $1000 a track plus if it's a cover song .10 a cd per
song.
Then you have to pay for production. If you think CDs are so expensive
try Making one (That would sell 10000 units) maybe you might think $20 a
cd is in order!
