Eric Nisenson's "Ascension - John Coltrane and His Quest" is good. The book "Jazz Anecdotes" is pretty hilarious reading and goes right across all time & genre zones. As for Miles' autobiography suitability as a gift, I'd be careful about who I'd give that to! Tom Smith
