Perhaps "lmtp -o smtputf8_enable=no" in master.cf can avoid
some of these delivery errors.
What will this trigger?
With smtputf8_enable=yes in main.cf, Postfix will continue receiving
SMTPUTF8 messages.

With "lmtp -o smtputf8_enable=no" in master.cf, the LMTP client
will not require that the LMTP server (Dovecot) announces SMTPUTF8
support.

Then, it is up to Dovecot what happens when a header or envelope
address contains non-ASCII.

Would be good to know if that is an improvement.

Thank you for the explanation!

Since I have Dovecot 2.3.19, which does not seem have utf8 support, I may run into problems, but I will ask if I can get an utf8 domain to test with me, and I will get back to you.
