It seems that we have a new user among us and that messages sent to him or
her generate some sort of anti-spam verification request. People are
invited to click on a link and confirm your message. They say: "When you
confirm, this message and all future messages you send will automatically
be accepted."

This can't be serious. I understand that spam is annoying, but if you
choose to use that kind of thing, it is *YOUR* burden to make sure that
you have the technical conditions required to receive messages and adjust
your mailbox so that it won't cause any trouble to anyone. You can't make
obstacles and expect that the rest of the world will take them off for you.

This kind of mechanism became very common in my country a few months ago.
Users getting yelled at and kicked out of lists became a pretty common
thing too.

When someone uses those automatic replies, a copy gets sent to each and
every single list member, of which the absolute majority has no interest
whatsoever in replying, clicking or confirming anything. Alas, one more
unwelcome message in their mailboxes, not a bit different from actual spam.
If the list has 1,000 members (and we do!), that user alone is fighting
spam by happily giving out 1,000 copies of something that is likely to
annoy 900 people in the most optimistic prognosis, *every time* that
*anyone* posts to the list. I don't know who contrived such system and what
these people were on when they came up with such idea. I understand that
spam is annoying, but I am sick of these lousy ideas that think it is a
good idea to fight the problem by pestering hundreds or thousands or even
millions of people who have no accountability whatsoever for the original
problem.

So I have to inform everyone in the list that any user that sends automatic
replies to the entire list will be put in no-mail status until the problem
seems to have been fixed in their mailboxes. If the user insists, will be
told to leave.

If you think you have the right to protect your mailbox from annoyances, I
agree. I also have the right to protect the list and 1,000 mailboxes.

Thank you.
