You're right. I have no shell, thus no Desktop. However, "Active Desktop" still on. Actually, there is no way to turn it off in WXP. (There could possibly be one in "Group Policy" editor, but I've never looked for it) "MS Desktop" and "Active Desktop" are indeed intimately intertwined with each other, however, still independent ones. "Active Desktop" seems to be dependent on "shell32.dll", but neither on the explorer shell itself nor on the Desktop (folder)... It's a good thing for PP to be able to support the "Active Desktop", IMHO. > It seems the Windows OS basic wallpaper setting routines, from > Control Panel, Appearance, Wallpaper, cannot be using or dependent > upon Active Desktop code, because you can set wallpaper even if > you have no shell and no Desktop. You're right if you use bitmap files for the wallpaper. But, it needs the Active Desktop (:but needs not the explorer shell) to set other format files, jpeg etc, for the wallpaper. It's not obvious at all to the XP users because of the reason that I said in the above. But, you can find it easily in W2K where you can readily turn off the Active Desktop. You'll get the pop-up message "You need the Active Desktop turned on to use this ..." Sean ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> $9.95 domain names from Yahoo!.
