Had the same problem with my 5300 and a couple of IIci's as well after
an OS re-install.  Went to the options--Mail and News Prefs--and checked
"Use Internet Config."  Set up Internet Config, signed on, signed off
and went back to Options and unchecked "Use Internet Config."

It's worked fine since then.  Netscrape seems to suffer digital
Alzheimer's, and forgets passwords, and whatall, and keeps you off the
Web.
