Hi Mad Dog,

first I will try if an Apple shop here will do it as part of the Apple 
repair programme. If not, I will try that.
At http://www.macfaq.net/troubleshooting.html I found short instructions 
how to take apart Apple computers.

This sounds like the AC plug on the motherboard is loose.  If you are 
willing to take your computer apart, it should be easy to fix with a 
soldering iron and a bit of solder.
