Cameron, Brian,

It's a no go. I now have two different 3Com 10Bt dongles that match my
card, neither of which works. Or rather, something doesn't work. Still
no link light.

Attempted with two different known-good Cat5 cables (not crossover) into
a good port on my router.

By known-good I mean I can use either cable to successfully and
repeatedly connect another network device into the same port.

I'm beginning to think the card is at fault, even though it mounts fine
on the desktop and appears OK.

To know for sure, I think I'll need either a different card or different
software. Brian, can you help with either? I'm particularly interested
in trying one of your card/dongle combos you have that you say works
for you to definitively rule out everything else.

-David
